The Importance of Branding and Web Design As A Coach or Consultant (and How to Get Started)

Blog Introduction:

If you’re an online business owner, chances are you’ve heard that branding and web design are important for your business’s success. But what does that actually mean? And how can you get started building a professional brand and website that will help you stand out from the crowd?

In this blog post, we’ll explore why brand and web design are crucial for the success of an online business. We’ll also talk about how to get started on building a professional brand and website, as well as automating your backend to create more consistent leads, grow your email list, and increase cash flow on autopilot. So let’s dive in!

Do coaches and consultants REALLY need websites?

As a coach, you may be wondering if you really need a website. After all, can’t you just use social media to promote your business?

The short answer is yes, you do need a site for your coaching business!

Why Social Media isn’t enough

While social media is a great way to connect with potential clients and promote your business, it’s not a replacement for having a professional website.

Your website is your digital home base, and it should be the first place potential clients go to learn more about you and your work.

How does a website help me?

Your site is also where you’ll capture leads and convert them into paying clients.

By having a well-designed site with engaging content and an opt-in offer (like a free download or mini-course), you can turn visitors into email subscribers who you can then nurture with targeted content and offers until they’re ready to buy from you.

In short, if you want to attract more aligned clients and increase your revenue, you’ll want to a coach website.

Website Design & Branding

The Importance of Brand and Web Design if you are a life coach, fitness coach, or service provider

It’s essential to have a strong brand that resonates with your target audience. Your brand is more than just your logo or the colors you use on your website—it’s the overall feeling people get when interacting with your business. people get when interacting

Your site is often one of the first places people will go to learn more about you and what you do, so it’s essential to make sure it reflects your brand positively.

Benefits of a well designed site

A well-designed site will not only look good, but it will also be easy to navigate and provide valuable information to potential customers.

Coaching websites start with having a clear idea of who your ideal client is, and knowing how to attract the most aligned clients through your branding and copy.

Brand and Web Design For Coaches and Consultants

Coaching websites for a life coach or fitness coach tend to have a different process than the strategy that is used on websites for products or larger companies.

You can start by collecting ideas for fun and creative website designs you feel really represent your brand values by using Pinterest to build out a brand board that includes images, fonts, and elements you love.

You can see a few examples of brand boards here:

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Once you have your brand board, you can decide if you want to purchase a professionally designed brand template from a web designer OR you can choose to hire a professional brand designer who will help you create the next level brand you feel amazing about.

Examples of Coach Website templates we love:

Tonic Site Shop has an amazing collection of world-class designs that are both minimalistic and include training on how to customize each of their templates.

They create all their design templates for SHOWIT and are always creating fun and creative website templates that you can easily implement for a coaching website.

Alternative Options

Alternatively, if you prefer to use a platform like Elementor or WordPress, we recommend the Online Business Automator program which has an entire coach website template that includes a 5-page site AND 5 different design templates for you to choose from that will help you stand out.

If you’d like to learn more about the benefits of building a website-centered business, you can check out the FREE OBA Training here which will walk you through the process of creating a coaching website by leveraging strategy and design to support you in scaling.

How to start building a Coaching Website as a Life Coach or fitness coach

Now that you’ve got your branding website options sorted, let’s talk about the process of creating your coaching website, especially as a life coach or fitness coach.

The first step to building your coaching website is to decide which platform you want to create your coaching website on, here’s what we recommend if you’re a life coach or fitness coach

WordPress or Squarespace

If you’re mainly concerned with SEO, then WordPress is the better platform over something like Squarespace because of it’s enguinity for SEO optimized websites.

But if you want a more user-friendly platform with less of a learning curve, then Squarespace may be a better option.

The biggest limitation with squarespace comes down to design, so if you prefer a more simplistic approach with minimal design functionaity, then squarespace is the way to go.

If you want an All-in-one solution for building your coaching website that includes great support from a team of trained experts and incorporates seo into the strategy, we recommend using ScaleUP that has been specifically designed with coaches in mind to make your life that much easier.

What is ScaleUP?

ScaleUP allows you to build your entire coaching website inside of the platform with an easy to use layout that’s user friendly.

You can also schedule a demo call with one of our team members to better discuss your needs and explore the platform your self.

Website Hosting

Once you know what website platform you’ll be using, you need to choose your website HOST.

We recommend using Siteground for all website hosting OR using our custom CRM, ScaleUP that includes Wodpress hosting.

Both of these options include world-class customer support and easy-to-digest training to help you learn the system and quickly get your coaching website off the ground at a minimal fee.

Now that you have your provider and host figured out, it’s time to move on to the actual design and development of your coaching website.

Custom Website or Template?

This is one of the more difficult decisions to make when building your coaching website, so we’ve broken it into two core options for you:

Option 1 Hire a professional

Hire a designer to build out a beautiful design for you, we recommend Mel Judson Design for an amazing website and brand design who has a ton of examples for different website design styles you can explore on her results page here.

When you choose to hire a professional brand designer, you get to enjoy the personal support your designer provides as they create a website design aligned with your vision and makes your overall life much easier.

Questions to ask designers

We recommend booking a call with different website designers to better understand their processes. We’ve written a separate blog about the 3 questions to ask web designers here.

If you’re not able to hire a professional designer, the next option is to DIY your coaching website using one of the templates we’ve written above.

Option 2 Do it yourself

DIY your coach website and design it your self using a strategically designed layout from a template shop.

This option is great if you want to learn the process of website design and have fun being creative as you bring your vision to life.

Web Design Courses

If you want to purchase a course on website design, we recommend checking out the Online Business Automator that will walk you through the entire process of creating your coaching website from scratch PLUS it offers a ton of support from our team in case you get stuck.

You can also find plenty of free resources and other websites and design training tools by using google.

What do I need to DIY my coaching website?

If you’ve decided you’re not quite ready to invest in a custom build website, it’s time to get started with collecting all the assets you’ll need to build out yourself.

Images

The first thing you’ll want to make sure you have for your coaching website as a life coach or fitness coach are high-quality photos that represent your brand.

Typography

Now that you’ve got your photos sorted, it’s time to pick your typography! Ideally, if you’re using a template, it should come with custom fonts that you can easily download and import into your coaching website.

If your website template doesn’t provide typrography, you can use free fonts provided inside Canva here.

Copywriting

The most important part of your website comes down to the words you write on the page and the way you layout all information that provides a great experience for visitors to easily navigate your site and ideally, leads to sales.

You’ll want to ensure you’re writing all of your website copy ahead of time and have all the pages on your site written out BEFORE you design them.

Once you’re done writing all your website copy and have your brand images and fonts, it’s time to start building the design for your coaching website!

Menu

The most important part of your website is the menu section that allows potential customers to easily search for information on your site. Your Menu should include a link to each of the core categories on your site AND an optional search bar for potential customers to quickly navigate to.

What pages do you need on your Website for your coaching business?

Now that we’ve talked about why you need a website for your coaching business and how to use it for your marketing, let’s talk about what pages you should include on your website.

At a minimum, your website should have the following pages:

– Homepage:

Your homepage should be designed to introduce visitors to your business and explain what you do and how you can help them. Be sure to include a strong headline, engaging images, and a call-to-action (CTA) so visitors know what to do next.

– About page:

Your About page is where you get to share your story and connect with potential clients on a personal level. Be sure to include information about your experience, credentials, and coaching philosophy.

This page should also include information about your life and personal experiences you’ve had that have made you who you are today.

If you’ve spent an extensive amount of time studying, it’s helpful to also present your credentials and certfications that separates you from other coaches in the indsutry.

– Services page:

On your Services page, you’ll want to list the different coaching programs or services you offer, along with detailed information about each one. Be sure to include pricing information and any relevant bonus materials or resources.

This services page can also be where you outline a course or other products you’re selling to create a great buying experience for customers.

You can also have the option for folks to book a call with you and discuss the different ways you can work together that allows for a more personal touch and world-class experience.

Ideally, your service page is helping to paint the picture of the vision your ideal customers have for themselves and does a great job explaining how you can help them get there.

More importantly, each service you offer should also have it’s own sales page where you share more about your work as a life coach, fitness coach or other types of coaching services you provide.

For a full breakdown on how to create your sales pages, checkout out OBA workshop on systems and automation here.

– Resources page:

Your Resources page is a great place to share helpful blog posts, downloadable PDFs, or other freebies that will help your ideal clients. Be sure to include an opt-in form so visitors can sign up for your email list.

This can also include things like self study courses or self assessment practices like quizzes or other fun ideas you might have that gives new audience members a great experience of you and your work.

The more personal you can make these resources, the better. We also recommend including a link for folks to book a call with you on the resources page so they can go even deeper and get additional questions answered about your coaching.

– Contact page:

Finally, don’t forget to include a Contact page so potential clients can get in touch with you if they have questions or want to work with you. Be sure to include your email address, social media links, and any other relevant contact information.

Testimonial Page:

Sharing testimonials from your current or past clients is a great way to build trust and credibility with potential clients. When done well, testimonials can be very persuasive and can help you convert more website visitors into paying clients.

Be sure you have client consent before sharing information about your clients on your site.

How often should you update your Coach Website?

Once your website is up and running, it’s essential to update it with new content your best option is regularly. How often you update your website depends on your business type and the goals you’re trying to achieve.

If you have a blog, you’ll need to add new blog posts regularly (at least once a week).

You’ll need to keep your product pages and pricing information up-to-date if you’re selling products or services.

You’ll need to keep your product pages and pricing information up-to-date if you’re selling products or services. For business website website

And if you’re using your website to generate leads or clients, you’ll want to ensure your contact information and forms are working correctly.

Generally, it’s a good idea to check your website at least once a month to ensure everything is still working correctly and to update any outdated information.

How much does it cost to have a coaching website?

The cost of having a website will depend on your budget, the type of website you need, and whether you use a template or have a custom website built.

Cost of a template

Using a template, you can expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $200 for the initial setup.

If you have a custom website built, then the costs willvary depending on the website’s complexity and the developer’s experience.

Cost of a custom built website

Generally, you may expect to pay $2,000-$10,000 for a custom-built website.

If you’re on a tight budget, then you may want to consider using a template or working with a less experienced developer.

How to use a coach website for your marketing

Now that we’ve established that you need a website for your coaching business, let’s talk about how you can use it to support your marketing efforts.

Your website should be the foundation of your online marketing strategy. It’s where you’ll drive traffic from your social media posts, email campaigns, and ads.

How does design impact my coach website?

Once visitors land on your website, it’s up to your website design and content to convince them to stay awhile and learn more about what you do.

That’s why it’s so important to have a well-designed website that clearly communicates who you are, what you do, and how you can help your ideal clients.

Your website should be easy to navigate and full of engaging, informative content that will help visitors understand what you do and why they need it.

Your website is the foundation of your online marketing efforts, and it should be designed to reflect your brand and help you convert visitors into clients.

The biggest branding and design mistakes on websites:

Clear copy

Coaches tend to over emphasize design and under utilize strategy on their website which can often leave potential customers feeling confused or unclear about what it is you actually do.

Simple Design

If you are a life coach and are serious about wanting to make an impact in the world, it’s imperative that you take the time to design your coaching website in a way that makes sense for potential visitors.

Consistent Call to Action

You want to have a call to action on every page of your website and ensure your design doesn’t take away from the great copy you’ve written that’s ideally, SEO optimized.

In depth explanation of your coaching style

The more you emphasize what type of coaching you do, the unqiue life experience you’ve had, and how you’re different from other coaches in the indsutry based on your results, the more your coaching website will stand out as a world class brand and separate you from the rest of the coaching industry.

The power of a coaching website

When you’ve mastered all of the above, you’ll find that life starts to get easier when you’re booking calls and making sales without having to be constantly relying on social media.

Your coaching, combined with an impeccable design, a beautiful brand and strategic layout, will position you as the go to life coach in your industry.
